Tsubaki is a cold-pressed oil from the seeds of the Japanese camellia (Camellia japonica), a tea shrub with beautiful flowers that grows on Japanese islands.

The first records of the use of Tsubaki oil for cosmetic purposes date back to the 8th century. Tsubaki oil was used by women in Japan as a cosmetic, thanks to which it was possible to protect the skin and hair from the harsh conditions of volcanic islands. In later years, when the beauty of Japanese women was characterized by long, dark, smooth hair, the oil was applied to damp strands with a traditional wooden comb.
